FAQs

  • We hope that by offering personalized classes, we’ll be able to deliver childbirth education that works for everyone. However, some people may prefer a traditional childbirth education format. If you want a group learning environment, hospital-specific information, or hands-on practice with labor support techniques, then a traditional childbirth education class may be better for you. But if that’s inaccessible, unavailable, or inconvenient for you, or if it’s just not your vibe, then we hope this will be the right class for you.

  • Fill in the blank: induced. spontaneous. hands off. hands on. medicated. unmedicated. figure-it-out-as-I-go. vaginal. cesarean. We don’t have an agenda and there is no “best” birth. Instead, we want to prepare you for the best birth experience possible through a tailored childbirth education experience that is personally meaningful and relevant to you.

  • Basic childbirth education content includes: physiologic changes of pregnancy; stages and signs of labor; labor pain and coping; pain management; labor interventions; birth and birth interventions; postpartum recovery; and immediate newborn care. But this is the buffet of childbirth education, which means you get to pick and choose what matters most to you.

  • When you book your class, you’ll be asked to share what matters most to you. If you want to learn all of the childbirth education content in detail, we can do that. If you want to pick and choose the topics that matter most to you, we can do that. If you want to ditch the script entirely in favor of Q&A, we can do that, too.

  • Every pregnancy is unique, but there are some common questions that people ask (e.g. What are my options for pain management? What’s the deal with the water breaking?). One of the advantages of a personalized, one-on-one childbirth education class is that you can ask questions that might be more personal, like “How will [insert diagnosis/condition/concern] affect my birth experience?” It also means that you can ask questions about topics that aren’t within the scope of a typical childbirth education class. You can share a birth story you’ve heard and any questions you have about that (e.g. “Will that happen to me?”). If you want guidance on crafting a birth plan, navigating pain relief options for labor, or how else you might prepare for labor and birth, all of these are fair game for our session.

  • Many health insurance companies offer reimbursement for childbirth education classes. However, individual health insurance policies and reimbursements vary. Please contact your health insurance company to confirm your benefits for reimbursement.

  • We believe that everyone deserves the best birth experience possible. Quality childbirth education is an important part of this. If you are interested in a Better Birth Boston childbirth education class, but cannot afford the full cost of attendance, please get in touch.
